THE REASON WHY I CHOSE THE NAME ‘NAVAHO’ FOR THE CENTRE
American Indians (NAVAHO), like many other traditional people, have a holistic view of health that is gaining credibility as we realise the limitations of conventional or Western Medicine. Conventional practitioners have long considered infection by bacteria or a virus, or sometimes genetic disorders and disabilities, to be the cause of disease. American Indian beliefs take theses factors into account, but also see illness as a disharmony or imbalance that may be directly related to spiritual causes.
The intricately interconnected concepts of body/mind and nature/spirit govern tribal views of wellness and illness. American Indian healers look beyond symptoms to discover the roots of an illness, which may lie in the spiritual world. The power of American Indian healing cannot be isolated from its spiritual and magical integration with the natural world.
I found this to be very inspiring and believe that calling the business Navaho portrays the objectives and philosophy I aim to achieve within the centre. |
